English Learning
OHDELA offers free and appropriate educational services to support students whose primary language is not English.
English learners (ELs) are students who have significant exposure to a language other than English. ELs have the same rights, privileges, and responsibilities as other students at OHDELA.
Our Program
The mission of the EL program is to help ELs gain linguistic, cultural, and academic proficiency and assure they receive an equitable education. We are dedicated to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and fosters cross-cultural understanding.
OHDELA provides a range of EL services that may include:
- Pull-out EL Services
- Push-in EL Services
- Small Group & Individual Intervention
- Classroom and testing accommodations/modifications
EL Assessments
There are three types of state-mandated assessments that English Learners participate in:
- Ohio English Language Proficiency Screener (OELPS)
- Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment (OELPA)
- Alternate Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment (Alt-OELPA)
More information about families’ educational rights can be found here.
