At OHDELA, a K-12 tuition-free online public school, we know one size does not fit all, especially regarding education. At OHDELA, we want all children to have online schooling options that work best for them and their learning styles. We want students to learn in their own way and prepare them to achieve their goals after graduation. We hold our curriculum to Ohio’s learning standards to ensure they get the most out of their education.

Who We Are

OHDELA (Ohio Distance and Electronic Learning Academy) is a tuition-free, non-sectarian, public, K-12 online charter school that creates a state-of-the-art educational experience using virtual schooling.

We answer to the Ohio Council of Community Schools as a state-authorized school. The Ohio Council of Community Schools sponsors, oversees, and monitors charter schools to ensure they follow state and federal laws, policies, and regulations. The OCCS is committed to closely monitoring the development and improvement of every school. They confirm each charter school is fiscally stable and academically prospering.

OHDELA is led by experienced individuals passionate about education, with backgrounds in traditional homeschooling alternatives and online charter schools. They work closely with our students, families, and teachers to ensure OHDELA online charter school students are engaged and learning.

OHDELA is unlike other online public schools and home school alternatives. Students can engage with other students, participate in school-wide activities, receive one-on-one attention from teachers, and access the tools they need to excel.

Who We Help

Advanced and Independent Students

OHDELA’s online charter school coursework has a specific pace to ensure students learn the proper skills and content per academic year. Advanced students may work ahead provided they participate in mandatory live classes and complete all required coursework while demonstrating mastery of all the required content.

Bullied Students

One out of every four students reports experiencing bullying during the school year. For students who have experienced the intimidation or embarrassment of bullying, returning to traditional school can be difficult. Online education with OHDELA provides a new approach to learning – one without the fear of bullies. Home school programs focus on learning; however, there is ample opportunity for students to socialize and meet new friends in a supervised and safe environment through live classes, live help sessions, state testing days, and OHDELA-sponsored events. At OHDELA, we work to ensure our students feel safe and secure within our learning community.

Special Education Students

OHDELA provides Intervention Specialists who work with families to meet the goals, objectives, and accommodations of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). Also, we work with students and families to ensure appropriate course selections are made based on the IEP and students’ abilities.

Struggling Students

For many reasons, school can be a struggle for students. Online learning eliminates hectic schedules and classroom distractions and provides a home-school alternative for struggling students. At OHDELA, students can review live class recording archives and access the curriculum 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, combined with live classes and live help sessions. These features, unique to OHDELA, allow students to stay on pace.

Students with Medical Conditions

Managing a student’s medical condition can be difficult, especially when attending a traditional school. Falling behind in classes due to illness or doctor’s appointments can be overwhelming and stressful. Since OHDELA records all of its live classes, a student can catch up on what was covered in each live class at any time, 24 hours a day,l 7 days a week. OHDELA’s live class recording archive allows students who need more flexibility to log in and access online content and recordings at any time of the day, any day of the week. Accessing the curriculum and live recording archives at any time allows OHDELA virtual home school students the flexibility to work within their scheduling needs while ensuring they can stay on pace to complete courses on time.

And because interpersonal relationships are as meaningful to education as books and tests, we have created an interactive environment where students can make friends with their peers and even meet in person through OHDELA field trips and family days.

Students can access class content 24/7. If a student is struggling, they can put in extra time or meet with a teacher during live help sessions to receive extra help on more challenging topics. Our teachers prioritize getting to know their students and equipping them with tailored resources to their interests and needs.

OHDELA + Parents: Making a difference in and out of the virtual classroom.

OHDELA encourages parents to take an active role in their student’s education. We want our parents and students to get to know our teaching staff. Our teachers look forward to getting to know parents, too, so everyone is working together to achieve the educational goals set for the student. Our excellent staff and faculty members are always available for questions and provide teacher tips parents can use to help children through schoolwork subjects, questions, and assignments.
